Jean-Claude Ellena is a French perfumer and a classic of minimalism, raised in Grasse in a family tied to perfumery. His style favours transparent, watercolour-like compositions built from few notes. From 2004 to 2016 he was Hermès' exclusive in-house perfumer, creating Terre d'Hermès and the poetic Un Jardin… collection (Sur le Nil, En Méditerranée and others); earlier he made First for Van Cleef & Arpels. He is also the author of several books on the craft.
