In 2025, Louis Vuitton commemorated two decades of its groundbreaking partnership with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami by unveiling the Louis Vuitton Murakami re-edition collection. Originally launched in 2003 under the creative direction of Marc Jacobs, this collaboration introduced Murakami’s vibrant Monogram Multicolore to the fashion world, merging traditional craftsmanship with pop art aesthetics.

A Reimagined Legacy

The 2025 re-edition collection reinterprets over 200 pieces from the original collaboration, infusing them with modern technology and design. Murakami’s iconic motifs, such as the Monogram Multicolore and Superflat Panda, are featured across a range of products, including handbags, accessories, footwear, and fragrances. Advanced digital printing techniques have enhanced the vibrancy and precision of these designs, ensuring they resonate with contemporary audiences.

Chapter One: Monogram Multicolore

The first chapter of the collection, released in January 2025, centers on the Monogram Multicolore. This pattern, featuring 33 vibrant colors, adorns classic Louis Vuitton silhouettes like the Speedy, Dauphine, and OnTheGo bags. Additional items include wallets, belts, sunglasses, and even skateboards, each showcasing Murakami’s playful and colorful designs.

Chapter Two: Cherry Blossom

The second chapter, launched in March 2025, introduces Murakami’s Cherry Blossom motif. This pattern brings a touch of spring to the collection, appearing on items such as trainers, perfume bottles, and sandals. The Cherry Blossom design continues the collaboration’s tradition of blending Japanese cultural elements with luxury fashion.

Immersive Campaign and Global Activations

To celebrate the collection, Louis Vuitton launched an immersive campaign featuring global pop-up stores, window displays, and in-store activations. These events invite customers to experience the fusion of art and fashion firsthand. In addition, the campaign includes a remastered version of Murakami’s 2003 animated short film, “Superflat Monogram,” which captures the whimsical spirit of the original collaboration.

Cultural Impact and Enduring Appeal

The Louis Vuitton Murakami collaboration has had a lasting impact on both the fashion and art worlds. By merging high fashion with pop art, Murakami introduced a new aesthetic that resonated with a broad audience. The 20th-anniversary re-edition collection not only honors this legacy but also ensures its relevance for future generations.
